hey maya, mom, this is a link to a pdf article, Public Health or Clinical Ethics, by a woman who is an eminent philosopher, onora o'neill.
i thought maya that you would be especially interested given your interest in community development. she takes the current trend of considering the autonomy of the individual to be the ethical foundation for medical decisions and moves it pretty squarely over to the aegis of political philosopy, arguing that the individual concerns are narrowly targeted to the wealthier populations, and the concerns of social justice for less fortunate peoples are excluded from the conversation....
i know, where do we find the time! that is how we wake up at fifty and go: "huh?"
hehe
love you guys! off and running. would love to hear more from y'all...
oh, rosemary's mom dorothea just came home from a sudden excision of enormous tumor. she is resting comfortably, but rosie had just returned from barcelona when this all came down, and was unable to go to the hospital at all due to risk of stray pathogens. hospitals don't need our help to kill people!
but all went very well, despite the rush of events...
my heart and prayers to dorothea! she was always generous and kind, beyond i am sure what i deserved...
busy here, michael has been off work over a week trying to get the inflammation down in his knee. so far, so good, but come bills we will be eating dirt. so if you know of any good varieties, just let us know!
had a nice long conversation with marion, who is sounding pretty good. it was good to touch base with her. she is getting some pictures together for me. it strikes me as pretty pathetic that i don't even know my father's middle name, or birthday. what in the world is that? what happened?
well, actually, a picture of what happened is beginning to cohere, with help from mom and those who knew him. and in equal measure the whole sorry mess is beginning to unravel and disappear in the current...
hubby just put food under nose... works every time!
