Hi people. This photo is from a permanent spring along the historic Beale Camel Road west of the San Francisco Peaks where Vern and I were hiking last weekend. You can see the words "Laws Spring" engraved on the rocks to the right by one Breckinridge, a member of the survey party, in 1858. Water in the desert: a miracle.

Since my RMUSD e-mail address is no longer functional -- they seem to be off the air for some reason (perhaps they didn't pay their bills) -- I have switched to vbtrail@gmail.com, effective immediately. I will try to figure out their switching notification procedure in order to notify everyone I know.

Love to all -- V

neat! we just watched a Planet Earth documentary on deserts, and found out all kinds of interesting thing, like which is the coldest, the hottest, the dryest etc. Did you know that there is a smallish elephant that has adapted to desert life in southwest Africa? And a wily brand of camel manages to eke it out in the Gobi?
