Grandma:
I was sent a link to this organization and was wondering what you thought of it. It almost seems like a joke but it's not. And it's supposed to be good for the environment? Something about parking lots in the mountains so the streets can be "given back to" pedestrians and bicyclers.

Pave the Peaks

Let me know. I like the "people enjoying pavement" photo. I don't know what to think.

Hi Maya, I'm so-o-o-o-o happy about your admission. Your Mom sent me the Pave the Peaks link. It is hilarious, lol hilarious. Of course it is tongue in cheek. It might even have been created by Native Americans (aka Indians) to poke fun at the Hualapais for building that godawful platform out over the Grand Canyon.

Incidentally, most of the people I know of who are completely rabid about the use of reclaimed water for snowmaking on the peaks are actually white people. Lotsa wannbes out here who try to be more Indian than the Indians.

The White Mountain Apaches do use reclaimed water in snowmaking at their ski resort and their sovereignty has not diminished one little bit. And they use gray water not drinking quality water as is proposed for Snowbowl.

i wish we could scoop up the magic of this world in flyovers and deliver them four-dimensional swooping and swirling to all the pinned-to-the-ground, that they may know the beauty, without killing it - so gawd-awfully!

we have the technology!

I wrote to Pave the Peaks, congratulating them on their very amusing site and received a response thanking me for my comments. No indication that I misunderstood the message. It's a spoof, for sure.

yes - i figured by the time i got to "returning the pavement to the pedestrians and dogs," and "of course, we can't possibly pave every inch..." that somebody's tongue was at risk of being swallowed!
